7.13.09 - Guest Comics

Looks like our fans are earning their geek cred! Josh has done comics for us before, and the DeathNote ref here made us laugh. I'm totally killing Matt for that cupcake. Then again, why would Haley be my girlfriend?! Secret lesbian relationship?! Though, if fan fiction says anything, it's that Light and L actually are in "twu wuv", so Matt and I would still be together.

Casey did an awesome job, too - finally, a horse I am not running from! The Twilight Princess reference is lovely. She also got Barry's fickle heart down pat. Thanks to both Casey and Josh for their contributions. We'll have more on Wednesday. There will be NO UPDATE on Friday, since we'll be in Baltimore. Regular comics will resume on July 20.

7.10 - Otakon Announcements!

It's another busy Friday, but we wanted to make some announcements about next week.

First off, our table in Artists Alley is located against the back wall - number X01. If you can locate the bathrooms, we're easy to find! We'll have buttons, prints, sketches, and t-shirts for sale. If you're broke, just come by and say hi!

Second, we'll have a GND meetup at that table on July 17th during Otakon! We'll migrate from there to the Hyatt Regency to have a late dinner - all are welcome, but if you give us a heads-up that you're coming, that'll help with making sure we're all seated quickly. We hope you guys will be able to join us!

Third, friend of the comic and official roadie Mike will be dressing up as Barry at some point during the weekend! If you say hi to "Barry," he'll give you a suprise (not scandalous, we promise). He'll also be helping us out at the table, along with Julia (the "Auric Fox" in our Usher Squad in the wedding arc). We're already grateful that they're able to help us out.

I can't help but sing that song whenever anything Ghostbusters-related comes around. It's just so catchy, even now. Matt doesn't seem amused by my Ghostbustin' booty dance in that last panel, though...

I'm okay with FFVII, but I don't feel like it's really aged well. The story is good, but while the visuals were revolutionary at the time, they just don't look very good by current-gen standards. If they chose a Final Fantasy to update, though, I'd have to go with Matt's choice - FFVI. Gorgeous, epic, sweeping, and it would look incredible if updated. Matt and I have been having fun with Ghostbusters, though - it's definitely feels like a solid movie sequel, but it's so fun to play as a game.

Didn't you know that bunny girls come in a six-pack? He got them from the minibar. At least we didn't have to use the legal loophole, and Barry's probably too stupid to be cheating on Haley. Just because he has bunny girls doesn't mean he knows what to do with them (such as make them fight Darth Vader with lightsabers and air-surf on sword rockets).

We really didn't stay at a hotel. We stayed with Matt's parents, to whom we are very grateful. They helped us every step of the way - from packing to moving back in. They let us stay in their house rent free, fed us, and tolerated our presence. We are so thankful that they helped us out, so Bill and Kathy - here's to you.

This Saturday is Free RPG Day - go to your local participating store and get some free stuff! Also, Matt's birthday is on Sunday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATT!

Being shoved out of your home with no notice sucks. It did take a while for everything to be rebuilt, but in the meantime, we had to go live in a very different place. More on that later.

Our story cannot compare to the unfortunate story of the Moos family, who lost their youngest member recently. The very next day, their house was forclosed - no lie. More information about how to help them out can be found here. If you have some cash to spare them or some time to pass along the article, please do. Every little bit helps.

Substitute Barry for me, and that's exactly what happened. Back in January, a sprinkler pipe burst in our apartment, flooding the place. I was home alone at the time, and tried to shut off the water. But, since that water supply was isolated from our regular supply, I couldn't stop it from coming. Luckily, the fire department came, and we didn't lose much. No one was hurt, just very wet.

The whole experience was insane, and we decided that it was finally time to talk about it.

I swear that by the end of the meal, I could feel the steak behind my ears. There was so much delicious food - for the cost of a main course, you got a five course meal, complete with amuse bouche (which is like an appetizer before the appetizer - a small thing you can pop into your mouth) and palette cleansers (lemon sorbet - think of it like a bath for your tongue).

I'm not sure that the ducks agree, Matt. Our wedding anniversary was at the end of May - and the restaurant we went to was truly amazing. L'Auberge Chez Francois truly helped make that night memorable. It's a rare thing to go to a place as fancy, tasty, and lovely as that, so if you get the chance, I highly recommend it. I'll show off the scenery on Wednesday!

WHY CAN WE NOT HAVE PRIVATE TIME, HUH?! I was also sorely tempted to put "IT'S OVER NINE-THOUSAND" as the text in that last panel - Mags looks very Super-Saiyan-ish.

We also just confirmed this week that we will INDEED have a table in the Artists Alley at Otakon again this year. We're pleased to be a part of it again! Otakon is July 17th-19th at the Baltimore Convention Center in Maryland - we loved meeting so many of you last year, so we hope to see even more faces this time around!

That gigantic ice cream sundae is apparently called the Kitchen Sink. The sundae comes in a metal bowl shaped like a kitchen sink - faucet and all! Definitely rivals Ben and Jerry's Vermonster.

Lucky Maggie. She's still there, too. From what she's been saying on her blog, they've been having a good time. We'll focus on a few of those antics next week. If you're not into video games, here's some backstory. Majesco produces a game franchise called "Cooking Mama," where lovable mascot Mama... ...well, teaches you how to cook (oh, and garden, too - Mama is very talented). Activision (which is in no way related to Majesco) recently stated that they would be releasing a game tentatively titled "Science Papa," where you play a rookie on a research team. Too close to Mama's name (and artwork), don't you think?

Majesco has a fanastic PR department that recently released a statement from Mama about the whole thing. Mama's a classy lady, I must say. She also makes a mean omelette with ketchup smiley face.
